My story
From Trauma to Regulation: My Journey Into the Wisdom of the Nervous System
My name is Limor, and my journey began in a small kibbutz in northern Israel, near the border with Lebanon. From just three days old, I lived in a communal children’s house, separate from my parents, sharing daily life with other children my age.
I grew up in a reality shaped by constant tension, where war and frequent runs to shelters were part of everyday life. These experiences deeply shaped my childhood.
Over time, I began to recognize the unexpected gifts that grew from those early years: a deep sensitivity to the world around me, the ability to listen to nonverbal cues, and the capacity to sense the state of another person’s nervous system through subtle bodily signals.
What once felt like the weight of trauma gradually became the ability to understand the nervous systems of others and help them find safety and healing.
My Professional Path
For over 17 years I have worked as an occupational therapist specializing in child development.
I hold a Master’s degree in Child development and have worked with children facing developmental challenges, guided parents and professionals, and shared my knowledge through lectures.
I am a DIR/Floortime therapist and instructor, a Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, a polyvagal-informed therapist, and an advocate of Nonviolent Communication.
A central focus of my work is interoception - the ability to sense and understand the signals of our own body.
What Motherhood Taught Me
Despite my professional background, motherhood brought unexpected challenges.
When my two sons struggled with sensory and emotional regulation, I realized that to truly support them I first needed to understand and regulate my own nervous system.
As parents, we are a primary resource for our children, offering the co-regulation they depend on. This journey not only helped me support my sons more deeply, but also reconnected me with my own inner strength and the importance of caring for myself.
The Birth of the SENCIAH Kit
Today, this personal transformation guides the work I do with other parents and children.
From this understanding I created the SENCIAH Kit - a resource designed to help children and educators connect with their nervous systems.
By learning to recognize the signals of their body, identify their emotions, and understand the deeper needs beneath them, children can discover the “superpower” within them - the ability to help themselves feel better, even when the reality around them is not yet ideal.
The SENCIAH Kit is more than a tool for managing emotions. It is an invitation to build resilience, deepen connection, and create environments where children - and the adults who support them - can grow and thrive together.
